Illinois ILLiad User Group meeting

 

Please join us Wednesday, Septmeber 24 at 9:00 for the first meeting of the Illinois ILLiad User Group.  We will be getting together as part of the Illinois Library Association conference on Navy Pier room 322.  Please note that this is a change from the date and time published in the preliminary program.  Send me any topics you'd like to discuss, and I will add them to our agenda.  Please also share this message with others who may be interested in joining us.

9/24/08 – ILA Conference

Midwest ILLiad Users Group

• Introduced the Midwest ILLiad Users Group which consists of ILLiad users from Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
• Passed out handout with wiki and listserv information

 

Discussion

What is the greatest advantage using ILLiad?

• Most users were paperless or almost paperless due to the implementation of ILLiad

OCLC Support with ILLiad issues?

• Users were happy with the support they received when OCLC was contacted for ILLiad issues.
• Atlas website very helpful to ILLiad users

Enhancement requests

• Would like ILLiad to communicate with ILS. Make ILL seamless to the patron. Only one account for patrons to go to.
• OCLC symbols with 2 are not put in twice automatically when using Direct Request
• Need a separate option for AV items. AV requests are treated as Book Requests which confuses the patron who sees a book request when they did not request a “book”.

How libraries are treating request from Book Clubs

• Change borrowing limits
• Use paper record to note individual charges and charge out all items under one person responsible for book club

Web Circulation

• Allows all staff to “check out” by putting the item “In transit” then charged out by ILL staff at a later time

Database Issues

• EBSCO Book chapter citations populate Book Request instead of Article Request – can this be fixed? EBSCO issue?

ILLiad Training

• Most libraries train Public Services staff on ILLiad who in turn instruct patrons

ILLiad Training through WebJunction and Wimba sessions

• Most agreed that the ILLiad training they received and Atlas website were sufficient

Online Procedure Manual Request

• Asked to share any online ILLiad manuals on the Midwest User Group wiki

 

Next Steps

• Organize Working Groups -- group didn’t feel the need at this time
• Interest in a local ILLiad list -- Jen from Loyola will look into this. Group will look at Midwest list which is more “local” than the ILLiad-L. Working group and future meetings may develop out of list activity.
